Walnut Carver
A bespoke dining chair in solid walnut, taking the geometry of Marcel Breuer's tubular steel work and reinterpreting it in wood: tapered laminated legs, hand-turned bog oak accents, upholstered in Mourne Mist tweed.
The legs are laminated from thin strips of walnut, which allows the taper and slight curve to be cut from a stable, movement-resistant blank. The bog oak accents are turned from timber recovered from ancient peat deposits, almost black against the warm walnut grain. The contrast is subtle at a distance and more pronounced close up.
The fabric is Mourne Mist tweed by Mourne Textiles, a small weaver in County Down, woven in a medium-weight warm grey that sits well against the walnut. Available to commission in a choice of timber and fabric.
