Somerset Library

A fitted library for a house in Somerset, built floor to ceiling across the full run of the room and returning around the door into the corner. The client had an extensive book collection to house, so shelf spacing was set out around it rather than to a standard module, giving each bay room to take the sizes actually in use.

Carcasses are painted hardwood, finished in a soft sage grey that sits comfortably against the room's existing joinery and cornicing. Above the door, the shelving continues as a bridging section, tying the two flanking runs into one continuous piece rather than two separate cabinets either side of an opening.
