Linacre College Cabinet
This was a particularly lovely brief. A case for rare books, made for the library at Linacre College, Oxford. English oak, tapered legs, brass lock, and a sloped top made from museum glass. Inside the cabinet, nothing is left raw. The oak is sealed under acrylic glaze and the base is faced with Marvelseal, so every surface a book can touch is inert.
The lining is pH-neutral linen on conservation board, cut as loose panels, so they can be lifted straight out and renewed. At the back there are air vents for passive ventilation. The glass filters 99% of ultraviolet and throws back almost no reflection. We worked closely with the librarian at the college on this, and it went to them with a full conservation report listing every material and finish, that stays with the cabinet. Very much made to commission, if you are interested in something similar do get in touch to discuss your requirements.
